What’s happening Now?

The Greenway Project has successfully advanced through the Part 8 Planning Process, building on earlier stages of scope definition, pre-appraisal, concept development, feasibility studies, option selection, and preliminary design with environmental evaluation.

With the statutory processes now complete, the Project has entered the enabling stage. Mayo County Council has engaged Valuation Surveyors and Engineering Design Consultants to progress the scheme’s development. A preferred route has been identified, and the Project Team is focused on detailed design development and initiating voluntary land acquisition negotiations.

VOLUNTARY LAND ACQUISITION

The nationally agreed Code of Practice and Greenway Sustainability Payments system ensures alignment among key stakeholders, including the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA), the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association (ICSA), and the Irish Farmers Association (IFA), promoting collaborative land acquisition for greenway development.

PROFESSIONAL FEES

The Council will cover the reasonable and necessary costs, including professional fees, incurred by property owners as a direct result of the proposed land acquisition for Greenways.

This includes costs associated with ensuring the formal transfer of good, marketable, and unencumbered title for the relevant portions of the property, as well as completing the Deed of Transfer and addressing standard title queries. Additionally, the Council will reimburse agent fees related to the negotiation and settlement of acquisition terms, including agreements on accommodation works.

Next Stages

The next steps for the proposed greenway involve making the services of Mayo County Council’s Valuer, O’Toole & Co, available to individual Landowners.

Landowners can now engage in discussions about accommodation works along the greenway with Mayo County Council, supported by their independent Valuers or Property Advisors. The voluntary land acquisition process will commence, allowing Farmers and Landowners to involve their own Agronomists or Property Advisors for one-to-one consultations and negotiations.
